About Iron D

Iron D Quarter Horses was built on a simple belief: good horses and lasting reputations are developed the same way—through sound principles, consistent work, and earned trust.

Where Foundation Meets Performance

Why Iron D

The “D” in Iron D stands for Dawn.

For nearly two decades, Dawn has been the constant behind every chapter of our life. Through years of overseas assignments, long separations, illness, recovery, and rebuilding, she carried the responsibilities at home and kept us moving forward.

Iron D was named to recognize that strength. Today, the legally registered Kansas livestock brand represents the same qualities Dawn has lived—loyalty, endurance, responsibility, and earned trust.

The horses carry the brand, but its meaning began with her.

Our Philosophy

Pedigree tells us what may be possible. Structure, mind, soundness, and ability determine what deserves to be carried forward.

At Iron D, foundation does not mean living in the past. It means preserving substance, durability, useful minds, and the qualities that made the Quarter Horse dependable—then joining them with proven modern performance genetics.

Every cross must have a purpose. Every horse must be given a fair opportunity. Reputation is earned through what we consistently produce and how we conduct ourselves along the way.

Principles first · Purpose in every cross · Reputation earned over time

A Lifetime With Horses

Lonnie’s life with horses began long before Iron D. As a teenager, he worked dude strings, guided trail rides, and learned that the horse’s needs come before the rider’s comfort.

He later apprenticed under veteran farrier Bruce Noll and spent approximately twenty years shoeing horses. His experience included ranch horses, show horses, mustangs, and problem horses that required patience, clarity, and practical judgment.

Military service and an international fire-service career eventually took him away from horses. When he returned to them in 2022, he brought back the same principles that had guided him throughout his life: identify the root cause, accept responsibility, work with purpose, and leave things better than you found them.

Horseman · Farrier · Wrangler · A lifetime of practical experience
